As we bid farewell to this year's summer vacation and our children, step back into the school routine with its homework, exams, and grades, let's not forget the laughter and joy of those sunny days. We all cherish these moments of pure joy. And fear not—there's a simple activity that can help you hold on to those precious moments of summer joy.

JUMPING ROPE

As the school's Health teacher this past school year, I took one rope outside with the 4th and 5th graders, and we jumped rope. Afterward, we discussed the benefits of jumping rope. The following benefits are what they came up with.

BENEFITS

Joy- we laughed so much, and no one was mad

Encouragement- we cheered each other on

Pride- within ourselves for not giving up

Teamwork- we had to work together to turn the rope

Exercise- moved every part of our body

Mathematics- Counting

Music- the rhythm of the rope and chants

Coordination-We had to make our brain and feet work together

Chemistry-release of dopamine (happy, excited hormone) and oxytocin(a hormone that helps build bonds with other humans)

Listening Skills- we had to listen to the teacher to know when to jump in

Patience- it takes time to learn a new skill, and it is ok to make mistakes

Perseverance- to not give up

A FUN MEMORY!

I suggest family members go outside and jump rope during the school year. Mom and Dad, even if you cannot jump, you can turn the rope or be outside as a team member to show your support. Please make this a fun family activity that will reap tremendous benefits, and your children can apply them throughout the school year. Just think, all we did was JUMP ROPE.
